Adopt-A-Park Program
When the City of Meriden offered The Adopt-a-Park Program in May of 2008, it just seemed natural and fitting for QRWA to adopt the Dossin Beach Park adjacent to our restoration project of the Dossin Beach Bathhouse. We are currently renovating The Dossin Beach Bathhouse as our future headquarters and to be a Regional Quinnipiac Environmental Education Center on the shores of Hanover Pond.
If you are interested in volunteering to help us with our efforts to keep the park clean and free of debri, contact David James to see what months are available.
QRWA Responsibilities
- Visit the site at least once a week for the duration of the agreement and perform light maintenance duties such as trash removal, planting, weeding, etc. The organization will be responsible for providing the equipment necessary to complete these duties. Weekly visits will not be required during the period from December 1st – February 28th.
- Complete a site status report and file with the Parks & Recreation office. Identify on the report any heavy maintenance needs, necessary repairs, vandalism, and/or large trash items (bulky waste) requiring removal.
- Bag small trash items. Bagged trash can be brought to the Parks & Recreation office.
Department of Parks Responsibilities
- Perform heavy maintenance duties such as mowing, trimming, tree removal, repairs, etc.
- Follow-up on any site status report problems/issues.
- Dispose of any bagged trash brought to the Parks & Recreation office.
- Participate in an onsite meeting with an organization representative at the end of the trial period and annually thereafter for the duration of the agreement.
Organizations successfully following the program guidelines will be recognized in the following manner:
- Onsite sign at the department’s expense(no larger than 12’ x 24’) acknowledging the organization
- Annual acknowledgment from the City Council
- Annual acknowledgment from the department at an outdoor event, i.e. summer concert at Hubbard Park
