     Turtle ProtectionQRWA Receives CL&P Grant for Turtle Protection
The animals are vanishing due to rapid development of their habitat and associated urban threats, including motor vehicles. The $996 grant will be used by QRWA to install turtle crossing signs during nesting season (late May-early June) at sites previously identified by volunteers under a grant from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. David Weinberg of Northeast Utilities Environmental Community Grant Program presented the award to QRWA at the Wieloch home. QRWA received a grant in November 2007 from Northeast Utilities Environmental Community Grant program for the next phase of our Turtle Crossing Project, a volunteer based effort to protect the remaining box and wood turtle populations in the watershed.
