QRWA Receives CL&P Grant for Turtle Protection

QRWA received a grant in November 2007 from Northeast Utilities Environmental Community Grant program for the next phase of our Turtle Crossing Project, a volunteer based effort to protect the remaining box and wood turtle populations in the watershed.

The animals are vanishing due to rapid development of their habitat and associated urban threats, including motor vehicles. The $996 grant will be used by QRWA to install turtle crossing signs during nesting season (late May-early June) at sites previously identified by volunteers under a grant from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

David Weinberg of Northeast Utilities Environmental Community Grant Program presented the award to QRWA at the Wieloch home.
