Peter Picone

Peter Picone, QRWA Board Member
Southington, CT

Occupation: Wildlife Biologist, Department of Environmental Protection , Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area: employed with the State of Connecticut.
Graduate of University of Connecticut : Bachelor of Science Degree in Renewable Natural Resources (wildlife biology emphasis).

Specializes in habitat enhancement; native plants; invasive species management;

Board Member of the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association since 1986 and  also served as past  president.

As a volunteer for the QRWA,  Mr. Picone leads the following activities:

  • Annual winter interpretive hike for Saw Whet Owls along the Q river
  • Building and placing Osprey nest platforms in DEP’s Quinnipiac River Marsh
  • Coordinates fish-stocking program/fish derby for Meriden Gorge area 
  • Created Canoeable Trail on Quinnipiac River from Southington to Meriden stretch and wrote accompanying guide booklet (Quinnipiac River Canoeable Guide, 1995) .

As a life-long resident of Southington, Mr. Picone enjoyed fishing, hunting, birdwatching, and hiking along the Quinnipiac River all his life.
